Learning by Hand: Kendry’s Journey into Joinery in London

At nineteen, Kendry already carries the quiet confidence of someone who has spent years learning to read the world through touch, weight, and balance. He joined us at sixteen, straight from secondary school, drawn less by textbooks and more by the instinct to create and understand with his hands.

Growing up surrounded by the outdoors — camping, hiking, surfing — Kendry learned early to navigate complexity by feeling his way through it, a skill he now brings to every corner of the workshop.

Since starting his apprenticeship, Kendry has completed Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery and has spent countless hours shadowing Isaac, our Director, observing and absorbing the subtleties of precision, clean lines, and considered craftsmanship. Each joint he measures, each surface he sands, is part of a larger conversation between patience, skill, and material.

Shaping Spaces: Joinery in London

Kendry has quickly become an essential part of the team. His curiosity, steady hands, and practical approach mean he learns fast, contributes meaningfully, and brings a quiet energy to the workshop. When asked why he finds joinery so rewarding, Kendry speaks simply, but with conviction: the work is tangible. “I like seeing a task through to the end,” he says. “It’s satisfying to solve something complex and finish with something you can hold in your hands. These are skills you can use at home, and eventually, skills I can share with my community.”

For Kendry, the workshop is more than a place of production. It is a space where focus and creativity meet, where problems are solved physically and mentally, where the process itself is grounding. In learning to shape wood, he is also learning a way of thinking — one rooted in patience, attention, and care — lessons that extend far beyond the workbench and joinery in London.
